At Knighton Normal we offer a range of opportunities for our children to experience kapa haka. Currently Whaea Ringi takes kapa haka on a Tuesday and Thursday afternoon for our senior and middle area students.
The purpose for kapa haka is to provide students from the middle and senior school, who are not in Te Hihiri, with a creative, dynamic and powerful way to access their learning potential as cultural beings. It offers the opportunity to learn history, tikanga, te reo Maaori and develop identity and create a connection to Maaori culture.
Every second year every child in the school is able to audition to be a part of a group to perform at the Waikato Tainui Regional Kapa Haka Festival.
